A Day at the Ashram

Mahatma-214

We woke up with the morning sunlight streaming through the window and onto the bed. It was 7:15 a.m. and we had 15 minutes until we started our day with pranayama just outside our room overlooking the Ganga.

After slowly waking up we made our way outside and met up with the rest of the group. Just like every morning, pranayama with the morning breeze in the air and the mighty Ganga before us was the perfect way to the start the day.

Feeling balanced and refreshed, we kicked back and relaxed in our room before our morning asana yoga class on the beach with Yogi Ji.

With our full stomachs we decided to set out into town for a cup of coffee at the nearby German Bakery and to shop in the streets of Lakshman Jhula.

The shopping in Rishikesh is unbelievable. There are so many inspiring books, colorful textiles and endless amounts of unique yoga accessories.

Although there are hundreds of cafés and restaurants scattered up and down the banks of the Ganga, the food at the ashram is so good we had to make our way back in time for lunch.

After lunch we decided to stick around the ashram, listen to music, relax and go for a swim in the river before the evening yoga class at 5 p.m.

The evening class was held in the rooftop yoga studio, which boasts panoramic views of the river below.

With new found space and energy in our bodies from an enlightening yoga class, we made our way to meditation to free our minds.

By the time meditation ended it was already 8 p.m. and time for dinner. Thankfully the chef had cooked up falafel, hummus, papad and green salad — the perfect meal to end another wonderful day in Rishikesh.
